That Sunset Though…

Last night as outflow from storms in eastern New Mexico raced west — we saw dry showers and thunderstorms try to develop over the city of Albuquerque. Eventually, the lower atmosphere wet enough and we had some light rain in parts of the metro.

But weather wise, yesterday was just a run of the mill low grade monsoon day.

What was impressive was all of this happened in the hour around sunset so the sky was just…magical. These timelapses will be unreal.

Looking west at a shower with extreme virga. Virga is when rain begins falling out of a storm but evaporates before hitting the ground. You can make out one small area of precipitation in the distance.

And as I turned around and looked east, this was the view of showers/storms over the Sandias. I removed some saturation from this image as the camera was a little hot but the colors were intense last night!

Another view west as the sun moves under the horizon. This is where I was really hoping for a bolt on the right side of the image but alas, it was not to be.

I’m ready to shoot more great scenes, but unfortunately it looks like as I get ready to have a couple of days off for the holiday the season is going to shut down somewhat.

However, that will give me some extra time to get some work done on the impending YouTube channel that’ll run hand-in-hand with this blog.
