A Weekend of the Monsoon (ABQ Shots)

Well we’re in the thick of it now aren’t we?

This weekend I spent quite a bit of time on the road pursuing monsoon storms across the state. I had some limited success getting some bolts Saturday but less so today.

It’s hard to believe that the season is really only just beginning as I’ve already captured some really compelling scenes for time-lapse. I do think I’m going to need to change some game plan things up as we go along but so far I’m ahead of schedule on where I thought I’d be.

Here’s a few pics from the weekend.

A lightning bolt hits on the east side of Albuquerque from a strong core which formed over the Sandias and moved into town on Saturday, July 13, 2019.
Another bolt from the same storm.
As the initial storms died, an outflow boundary pushed east and then another round of showers/storms formed in the Rio Grande Valley. These were less electric than the storms before. I’m still somewhat hopeful that these storms produced a bolt I didn’t notice on camera, but I’ll need to actually take some time and review my shots fully!

Looking forward to the week ahead, the monsoon pattern will more or less continue with a couple of shots for photography here in ABQ for the workweek. The weekend holds a little more promise for me — tentatively I’ve been thinking this might be the weekend I head towards Southern New Mexico but we will see how that shapes up.
